Are You Ready for an Organ Solo was originally released in 2003 by Three One G as a picture disc. The label has now reissued this classic party jammer on pink and powder-blue vinyl with deluxe metallic die-cut cover, manufactured in Italy and England, and assembled in San Diego. The album was recorded by Tim Kerr (Big Boys) at The Sweatbox Studio in Austin Texas in the summer of 2002 and marks the beginning of Quintron’s efforts to separate the dance floor and pure experimentalism into separate projects so that that each new offering might be more specifically useful in a particular reality (see 2004’s follow-up, The Frog Tape for pure weirdness).
Fun facts:
1. The sexy Q and P photos were taken by artist Tony Campbell (Miss Pussycat side) and documentary film director Rick Delaup (Quintron side) with the Quintron side being shot at the ultra-sleazy Aloha Motel on Airline Highway.
2. Miss Pussycat’s airbrushed t-shirt, worn on the cover, was painted by French Quarter artist Craig Tracy who could not remember how the black keys and white keys were laid out on a piano out so he just guessed (wrong). Her Drum Buddy earrings were crafted by Tasmanian outlaw / artist Kirsha Kaechele.
3. Kim Fowley actually named this album. He was sniffing around New Orleans in the early 2000s, looking for the next big thing and, although Quintron declined working with him, Mr. Fowley did offer up this suggestion for the album title.
4. Tim Kerr particularly LOVED the song Miniature Breakdown and spent a lot of time coming up with backing vocals and layering tricks. Digging into the disco during the height of retro-garage mania was a good time for this bunch of contrarians.
5. The song, “I’m Not Busy” is three true stories mashed into one.
6. Miss Pussycat got very long hair extensions for the cover photo but you can’t see them.
7. The blue paint under Quintron’s fingernails on the cover is from working on the first ever run of Drum Buddies.
