Locust House Variations, a Column by Adam Gnade, “I Expect Rain”
Today it’s thunderheads in from the west and August swelter. I am thinking of dead friends and how before they were ghosts we walked the streets at night waiting for something to happen.
Now—distance, quiet, and today I write letters to those who will never read them.
Life, you are a tragic comedy, but today instead of laughing I stare out the window at the dark clouds over the hills and I expect rain.
