My first day back in California we save a dying bird, and it feels like a good omen—a proper start to a long-awaited homecoming. That day (today, earlier today; it’s nearly dusk now) begins at the Santa Cruz harbor. My father and my uncle Lenn and I take Lenn’s boat out to sea in the MORE…
The concept of Cult and Culture began as a short segment created by Justin Pearson, an internationally known musician, record label owner (Three One G Records), author, and actor. He is best known as bassist/vocalist for bands such as Dead Cross, The Locust, and Retox. Justin has come to know and work with a broad MORE…
“Don’t you start me talking/I’ll tell you everything I know,” –the New York Dolls “Feels like fall in the air.” I’ve been saying that for weeks, but it was wishful thinking. “Feels like fall in the air”? The record is over so fast it’ll be done by the time you finish reading this. Not really, of course, but I’m trying to make a point MORE…

Three One G has a history of putting out records by two-piece bands that defy expectations of what two humans can do (musically) when put on a stage or in a room together. Released seven years ago today, the Qui, Secret Fun Club 7” is a great example. Qui is Paul Christensen and Matt Cronk MORE…
Some bands need 100 people to make shit happen. French avant-thrash brutalists Warsawwasraw only need each other. Aww, right? John Anthony Huss (vocals, guitars, drones) and Mathieu Pierre Luckas Bétard (drums, percussions, vocals) are like that 1981 smooth R&B hit “Just the Two of Us.” “Just the two of us/building castles way on high,” I MORE…
